Glen

Glen's story told by Leanne

Glen was a big character. He loved the outdoors, loved his family, loved his dogs. He had a huge passion for his dogs. And just loved life in general to be honest, his passion was being outside.

From the minute we got to Cynthia Spencer it’s like a light was lit inside him. He actually said to my mum once, every morning I wake up I’m happy here. And that was amazing.

Unfortunately, with Glen’s cancer, he lost the use of his legs, and because he didn’t have the use of his legs, he couldn’t go outside. Within a week Cynthia made sure he had a wheelchair, and together we went outside. He had his lunch in the garden, he absolutely loved it.

They gave him a bit of freedom, a bit of life back again. Dignity in dying.

He wanted to stay in control of his medication the whole way through, and they respected that. They made us all, the whole family feel welcome. They’d take the dogs in to see him, he’d go out in his wheelchair in the garden. It was just homely to be honest. The staff were just out of this world. I couldn’t thank them enough for what they did for him, yes… it’s an amazing place. I just couldn’t praise it up any more, what words to say…

It’s brilliant. Love it there.
