The Hummingbird Service provides free counselling and bereavement support to patients, family and friends at any point from the diagnosis of a terminal illness, available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Northamptonshire.
As part of the Hummingbird Bereavement Service, Age UK Northamptonshire provides specialist email and telephone support, along with one‑to‑one counselling from a qualified, registered counsellor, ensuring people receive compassionate, expert help when they need it most.
Commissioned and funded by Cynthia Spencer Hospice and Cransley Hospice Trust.
The diagnosis of a terminal illness can be very distressing for both the patient and their family and friends. The uncertainty, along with the emotional and practical challenges can feel overwhelming.
Whilst these feelings are perfectly normal, many people find it helpful to talk to someone outside their family and friends about their thoughts, feelings, experiences, and fears.
This support is available to patients, families, carers and loved ones – both before and after the loss of someone close, recognising the deep emotional and practical challenges that come with bereavement. It is available to anyone over the age of 18 living in Northamptonshire.
With a qualified and appropriately registered counsellor, available in person, via video call, or over the telephone, depending on what feels most comfortable for the individual.
Bringing together people who are also experiencing grief. These sessions offer connection, shared understanding, and guidance. Each group is facilitated by a registered counsellor and supported by trained volunteers, focusing on emotional wellbeing after loss.
Delivered by trained counsellors, which may include emotional and practical support depending on personal circumstances and needs following a bereavement.
If you are a patient, family member or friend of someone with a terminal diagnosis or have been bereaved in the last year and feel our specialist support may be helpful please contact us by telephone on 01604 379916 or via email.
