Make a Will Month 2020

1 May 2020 to 31 May 2020

No one likes to think about making a Will and people have all sorts of reasons to avoid making one. They don’t have time, they don’t believe that it will be necessary and, of course, none of us like to think about dying. However, there are several important reasons why you should make or update your Will - getting married, buying property or even becoming grandparents. Making a Will is the only way of ensuring that your estate passes to those you would like to benefit. When no Will exists, it can cause stress and upset to those you love at a time when they are least able to cope with it. Those who you wish to benefit from your estate may receive nothing. Even if they do receive part of your estate under the intestacy rules (the rules which govern an estate if no Will has been made) they may not be aware whether you had intended them to benefit. When making, or changing your Will, it is important to consider carefully those who you wish to benefit from it. Making or updating your Will does not need to be hard work or expensive, and many feel a huge sense of relief once their Will has been completed.

How our Make a Will campaign works

Our Make a Will campaign is an opportunity for you to make or update your Will, and ensure that those you care about will be provided for in the way that you wish. During May, local solicitors across Northamptonshire have kindly donated a number of appointments free of charge to help you make or update your Will*. Instead of paying the solicitor for their expertise, they just ask that you make a donation instead to Cynthia Spencer Hospice.

* The solicitors will prepare a Standard Will (90% of Wills are Standard), however any complex Wills including Inheritance Tax planning or setting up discretionary Trusts may not be covered by your donation, so you may need to negotiate a fee with your chosen solicitor for the 'non-standard' part.

All of the services at the Hospice are provided to our patients free of charge. This means that your donation will go directly to paying for the care of local people.

There is no obligation to include a gift in your Will to Cynthia Spencer Hospice if you take part in this scheme, however any such gift you make today could enable us to care for people long into the future.

How to Make an Appointment

To take part in our Make a Will campaign you will need a Make a Will pack from us, which you can get by contacting the Fundraising Office on 01604 973340 or by emailing . Once you have received your pack, call your preferred solicitor from the list provided after 16th April 2020 and make an appointment during May, quoting 'Cynthia Spencer Hospice Make a Will'.

Your donation is then given via your solicitor.
